Welcome

Welcome to the social site for The Pelican Fringe. The fringe site for the Plymouth e-Learning Conference.

Inspired by F-ALT and Edupunk, this site will allow delegates at PELC10 to organise and discuss fringe activity at PELC10.

The official tag is.... can you have an official tag for an unofficial fringe? Hmmm. Oh just use #pelc10 for Twitter and pelc10 for everything else.

From Steve's Blog

We're holding another conference in Plymouth next year! The theme for the 5th Plymouth e-Learning Conference is Learning without Limits - we will address the notion of anytime, anyplace learning. The conference will highlight the growing number of contexts in which learning can take place, and how technology is playing its role. PeLC10 will take place on April 8-9, 2010 in the iconi… Continue

Time to reflect

It's time to start reflecting on the Plymouth e-Learning Conference for 2009. I'm incredibly tired and slept like a brick last night, but I am also very satisfied at the level of success we achieved with this year's conference. The choice of theme worked well - Crossing Boundaries certainly lived up to its promise, and clearly resonated with most of those present at the event. The choice of keynote speakers was also spot on. Mike Blamires set the scene perfectly with his presentation on change a… Continue

Authoring Spaces

arrive with expectation of play- - we don't provide tools to meet their expectation and they don't use it to full potential.
Wow - children struggled to link cause and effect if the effect was audio.
Time is currency
Children arrive at an experience with a disposition they believe is appropriate
Response to visual stimulation was much more striking - in a green screen environment they were able to infer meaning from the video screen and transpose it into the physical space

Cracking blog session at the conference this morning, with too many ideas to shake a stick at. Will blog more later on when I have had time to reflect on things. :-)=

Amplified Twittering and Social Reporting

Today I was at the JISC Teaching and Learning Experts Group Meeting in Birmingham.

I always enjoy these meetings as you get a huge wealth of expertise, knowledge and examples to take away with you back to your own institution.

We used Twitter quite a bit today, so much so that the tag #jiscexperts09 became a trending tag on Twitter. I am almost 100% sure that #pelc09 will be a trending tag over the two days of the conference.

Lots of comments, discussions and conversations. Some went off tag… Continue
